Panauti–Namobuddha peace walk completed
Marking Buddha Jayanti on Baisakh 29, Kavre Sewa Samaj held a Panauti–Namobuddha peace walk. Participants from the capital and other parts of the country, along with local residents, turned out in encouraging numbers.
Inaugurating the walk, Dr. Ram Baran Yadav, Nepal's first President, said the Buddha's message of peace and non-violence must be carried to ordinary people.
He was speaking on Monday in Panauti Bazaar, Kavrepalanchok, as he launched the Panauti–Namobuddha peace walk organised by Kavre Sewa Samaj for Buddha Jayanti.
He said large-scale deforestation and exploitation of nature in the Chure and Mahabharat ranges are harming the environment, and that every sector must work to stop it.
Former President Dr. Yadav stressed that Panauti and Namobuddha in Kavrepalanchok are ancient places whose history reaches back to the time of the Buddha, and that their historical and religious importance must be brought to the attention of the world.
Offering his best wishes, Panauti Municipality Mayor Ram Sharan Bhandari said efforts are under way to have the Panauti area inscribed as a World Heritage Site.
The walk set off from the bus park at Maneshwori, Panauti, circled the Panauti Bazaar area and ended at Namobuddha.
Kavrelis living in the capital took part, along with representatives of local organisations and political parties.
